 AUGMENTED EXPOSURE

Realtà Virtuali per i Disturbi della Nutrizione e dell'Alimentazione

These virtual reality experiences recreate environments in which to expose the patient to preselected foods, giving them the opportunity to associate their level of anxiety with each individual food. These sessions aim to activate "emotional triggers," factors that provoke an emotional response that, in some individuals, can translate into problematic eating behavior (e.g., Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa). These experiences can be adopted by mental health professionals specializing in Eating Disorders or by multidisciplinary teams working in specialized clinics or departments.

Usage Protocols

The validated CBT protocol of "Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy" (VRET) allows the eating disorder professional to work with patients/users on the gradual improvement of dysfunctional eating behaviors in realistic, yet controlled and protected contexts.
The numerous foods available (about 150 from Italian, American, Brazilian, and international cuisines) that can be served in different immersive environments can be virtually picked up with the movement of one's hands without the need to use the controllers of the Virtual Reality headset.
